How
do I keep my new hardwood floor looking new?
| 1. |
Install felt pads under
all moveable furniture. We suggest you use felt pads instead of the
hard plastic or rubber pads, which may scratch your floor over time.
Change the pads at least once a year. |
| 2. |
Use area rugs in heavy
traffic areas to protect the hardwood. In addition to protecting your
floor from wear, they will add nice accents to your room. |
| 3. |
Use protective wipe-off
mats inside and outside entrance doors to protect your floor from
moisture and grit. |
| 4. |
Always use the manufacturer's
recommended cleaner. You'll keep your floor looking new for many years
(and you won't void your manufacturer's warranty). |

I'm concerned
about my pets and the new carpets in my home. What should I know?
| Pet
accidents--which can happen during pet training or illness--are unavoidable.
If an accident occurs, follow these steps: |
| 1. |
Do not rub a
urine spot witha wet towel. This will compound the problem, as water
dilutes and spreads the urine deeper into the carpet. |
| 2. |
Absorb the urine
with a dry white paper towel. Scoop up any solids as soon as possible,
using a dull object such as an old spoon. |
| 3. |
Cover the soiled
area with a dry extraction carpet cleaner, working it through the
carpet fibers witha brush specifically designed for carpet fibers. |
| 4. |
Let the cleaner
dry thoroughly, then vacuum the dry cleaner out of the carpet. |
| 6. |
If dry cleaner
is not available, place a thick layer of white paper towels over the
spot and leave overnight. Use a dry extraction cleaner the next day
as described above. |
| 7. |
If the spot
appears clean but an odor persists, it may be possible that furniture
legs, planters, or other objects are retaining some of the odor. |
| 8. |
Clean your pet's
favorite sleeping/lounging area regularly with a dry extraction cleaning
system to keep the carpet from becoming dull and matted. |
| Carpet
care kits, available at King Floor Service, will help you solve pet-related
carpet problems. The HOST Carpet Spot Removal
Kit contains everything you need to handle pet accidents, and the
HOST ZAPPER Kit will help you keep your pet's favorite area
(and other high-traffic areas in your home) looking and smelling clean. |

My
children occasionally spill drinks on our carpet. How should I clean up
spills?
| 1. |
Remove fresh
spills immediately. Blot up excess liquid with clean, dry white paper
towels (colored or printed towels contain dyes that may transfer to
your capet fibers). Layer the towels over the spill and press firmly,
using additional towels as the spill is absorbed. |
| 2. |
Never rub spills.
Rubbing spreads the spill and may alter the carpet's texture. |
| 3. |
After removing
excess liquid, place a handful of absorbent dry extraction carpet
cleaner on the area. Brush it through the carpet with a brush specifically
designed for carpet fibers. Then place an extra handful of dry cleaner
over the spill and pack it down lightly with the palm of your hand. |
| 4. |
If dry extraction
cleaner is not immediately available, place a 1/4 inch layer of white
paper towels over the spot. Place aluminum foil or plastic wrap over
the towels and weigh them down with several books. Leave overnight
to dry. The next day, use a dry extraction cleaner as described in
step 3. |
| 5. |
Vacuum the dry
cleaner out of the carpet. |
| 6. |
For drink spills
that have dried, spread a handful of dry extraction cleaner over the
spot, brush in all directions with a brush designed for use with the
cleaner, then vacuum. |
| 7. |
For more difficult
spots, pour a small amount of liquid spot remover on a white paper
towel, then blot the carpet alternately with the spot remover and
a clean, dry paper towel. Start at the outside edges of the spot and
work inward. This technique takes time--patience will pay off. Finally,
spread dry extraction cleaner on the spot, pack it lightly with your
hand, and let dry overnight. Vacuum the next day. |
| The
HOST Carpet Spot Removal Kit, available at
King Floor Service, contains everything you need to handle common
spots, spills and stains immediately. It includes a bag of HOST Sponges
Cleaner, a hand spotting brush and an 8 oz. bottle of liquid spot
remover. |
